Goshen Center for Wound Healing opens in Goshen
Jan. 14, 2010
GOSHEN, Ind. - At any given time almost 6 million Americans suffer from problem wounds. In the Michiana area alone, approximately 9,000 people suffer from non healing wounds each year. The cause of these wounds ranges from complications associated with Diabetes and other vascular disorders to pressure sores and traumatic wounds.
Patients suffering from these types of wounds suffer from not only the physical pain and complications of their condition, but are also plagued by the mental and emotional pains that result from a decreased quality of life.
Goshen Center for Wound Healing, part of Goshen Health System, is now open at its brand new, state-of-the-art-facility located at 2006 S. Main St., Suite B, in Goshen Health System's former Park Pharmacy building. Renovations of the building, done by DJ Construction of Goshen, began in August of 2009.
The new 3,500 square-foot wound center is equipped with two hyperbaric oxygen chambers. Unavailable anywhere else in the area, this leading-edge treatment delivers high concentrations of oxygen to rapidly heal even the most difficult wounds. Patients now have access to this advanced care close to home.
Through Goshen Center for Wound Healing's comprehensive, integrated approach, patients will also have access to services that include infectious disease management, physical therapy, vascular evaluation, nutritional management, pain management, diabetes education, nuclear medicine, radiology, wound care education and more.
A public grand opening of Goshen Center for Wound Healing will take place today (Jan. 14) from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Open to the entire community, the event will include tours of the new facility, and the opportunity to visit with the wound center's dedicated medical team, including board-certified surgeons, Dr. Norbert Schwer, medical director, Dr. Kevin Gerig, Dr. John Martens and Dr. Nathaniel Dew, all of Gerig Surgical Group. Goshen Center for Wound Healing can be reached Monday through Friday at 574.537.5060.
