Learn about screenings and prevention during Colon Cancer Awareness Month
March 9, 2009
GOSHEN, Ind. -- Finding cancer before it spreads is one of the most important keys to survival. Studies have shown that if cancer is found early it can make a significant difference in outcomes.
It's estimated that nearly 50,000 people die each year from colon cancer, but it's easily one of the most preventable cancers. That's why a cancer screening test, called a colonoscopy, is a vital tool in the fight against cancer.
Join Dr. Denise Murphy on Thursday, March 12 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Martin's Supermarket on U.S. 33 in Goshen, as she discusses common risk factors and the importance of cancer screenings during Colon Cancer Awareness month. Dietician Becky Overholt will be covering proper diet for GI/Colon health and colon cancer prevention. Participants will have the chance to win one of two $20 Martin's Gift Cards to be raffled that evening. This event takes place in the upstairs section of Martin's Side Door Deli. It is free and open to the public.
This class is part of the Goshen Health Educational Series. This new community education series, that began at the end of 2008, is aimed at taking Goshen Health System doctors and medical staff out into the community, with the goal of educating the public and giving them a chance to meet Goshen Health System experts before they need them.
