Building Contractors Association Excellence In Construction Award 2007

The Center for Cancer Care at Goshen Health System and Weigand Construction are proud to announce that they are the recipient of the 2007 Building Contractors Association Excellence in Construction award in the New Construction under $2 million category. The awards recognize the most outstanding construction projects within a 75-mile radius of Fort Wayne, Indiana. The winning projects are chosen by an independent Judging Panel based on project uniqueness, significance/impact to the community where constructed, BCA-member involvement, and the project's safety record.

The project consisted of a 1,500 square foot room constructed to house the cancer center' Tomography Unit. This new cancer treatment system delivers radiation treatment for cancer by delivering a very sophisticated form of IMRT, or intensity modulated radiotherapy, and integrates treatment planning, delivery, and verification in one system

The procedure is only being done at a handful of cancer centers across the country including Duke University, the Mayo Clinic, and the John Wayne Cancer Institute in California. At the time of its installation, Goshen's Tomo Therapy facility was only the second installation in the state of Indiana

One unique aspect of construction was the SkyCeiling that was installed by The Sky Factory. The purpose of adding the decorative ceiling was to bring nature's profound nurturing qualities to patients.
