Center for Cancer Care Adds Acupuncture to Complimentary Alternative Medicine Program

Goshen, Ind. - The Center for Cancer Care at Goshen Health System recently added acupuncture to the Complimentary Alternative Medicine (CAM) program. CAM integrates naturopathic medicine with conventional cancer treatments, seeking to treat the whole person - mind body and soul. This new therapy option is provided by Emily Moore, L.Ac. Naturopathic Resident, who holds a masters degree in Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine.

"Most patients that I see receive acupuncture for side effects of their cancer treatment. Among many symptoms, acupuncture is believed to relieve pain and maximize the bodies response to traditional treatment," said Moore. "Acupuncture is relatively painless. Patients typically only feel a sensation during treatment, and my patients are responding very well to the therapy."

Before treatment begins, the patient undergoes an assessment including questions about body function and current symptoms. Moore also looks at the tone and health of the patient's skin, hair, teeth and nails. She assesses the tongue because it reflects the balance of energy in the body. After the assessment is complete, Moore designs a treatment plan that is specific to the patient at that time.

In addition to treating symptoms experienced by cancer patients, Moore is seeing patients at the Retreat Women's Health Center. To make an appointment call the Retreat at 574-537-5000.
