Goshen Health System Named as one of Top-Five “Best Places to Work in Indiana”
Goshen, Ind. – Goshen Health System was named by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce this week as one of the top five best large-sized companies to work for in the state of Indiana.
Over 500 representatives of all 36 Hoosier companies named to the first annual “Best Places to Work in Indiana” list gathered May 3, at an awards luncheon at the Indiana Convention Center, and were kept in suspense as presenters from the Indiana Chamber counted down to the top finishers in two categories
Goshen Health System placed fifth in the state in large-sized companies employing more than 200 people. Edward Jones, a statewide financial services firm took first place in that category, while C.I.K Enterprises, LLC, a direct mail marketing company from Indianapolis, took top honors for small to medium-sized companies employing 25-199 people.
“Best Places to Work” honorees were determined through employer reports and comprehensive employee surveys, with survey results accounting for about 70% of a company’s final score.
“We didn’t change anything to attract or win this award,” said Joe Gavan, Vice President, Corporate Development & Marketing. “All we did was simply report who we are.”
Gavan singled out for praise the Goshen Health System Colleagues who took the time to respond to the comprehensive 65-question employee survey back in January. “We really owe this award to the Colleagues who took the time out of their busy schedules to sit down and thoughtfully go through the process of evaluating their work place,” said Gavan. “We had a 45 percent response rate, which for a survey of this size is very, very good.”
The Best Companies Group, which was in charge of the survey and reporting process, has overseen similar programs in more than a dozen states. ModernThink, LLC, a workplace excellence consulting firm, handled the selection process. The basis for this initiative is Fortune magazine’s noted “100 Best Companies to Work for in America.”
At the luncheon, representatives from all designated companies were presented with “Best Place to Work” awards of excellence. Additionally, honorees were featured in a special section of the May/June issue of the Indiana Chamber’s BizVoice® magazine, accessible online at www.bizvoicemagazine.com, and through the Inside INdiana Business with Gerry Dick television program and e-newsletter – all of which reach statewide audiences. Additional 2006 event partners are the Indiana State Council of the Society for Human Resource Management and the Indiana Youth Institute.
