Colon Cancer Risk Factors

Colon Cancer can be present without symptoms and there is no single risk factor that places a person at risk for colon cancer. Using these factors as a guideline, if you feel you may be at a greater risk for colon cancer speak with your doctor.

Risk factors

* Age – roughly 90 percent of colon cancer patients are over the age of 50.
* Inflammatory intestinal conditions – such as ulcerative colitis and  Crohn’s disease
* Family history
* Diet – low fiber and high fat diets may play a role in colon cancer
* Sedentary lifestyle
* Diabetes
* Smoking
* Previous history of colorectal cancer or polyps
